Hi everyone!
This week is my final blog post for this course- wow it's gone by fast!
For this post, I will be writing a reflection on the course, and some of the blogs that my peers have written.
To start, let me reflect on some of the blog posts my peers have made. While I was looking at the different blogs that my peers have, it was great to see how many resources are listed on their blogs. Sydney B. has one whole post about different resources that math teachers can use. I like how this post reflects on how it's okay for teachers to get help and use the resources that are out there to help us! As someone heading into the field, I am overwhelmed with all the planning that is needed and how much time it takes me to make a single lesson plan, let alone lesson plans for an entire week for 3 classes! But, Sydney B. has a point! There are resources out there, that provide different lesson ideas, that can really help us! I fully believe there is no shame in taking a lesson idea and altering to make it your own!
Next, I reflected on Peter's blog! 2 posts that stuck out for me was the post Peter made after he led his learning activity and when we led our problem solving session. Peter wrote posts on both of these assignments. It was really cool to see how these activities have made myself, and my peers reflect on what we presented and the ideas behind it. Peter mentioned in his posts the activity that was run, the focus of the activity and the tools that were used. I think that these stuck out to me because I did something very similar, so it was great to see that Peter has seen the same benefits from these activities that I have as well!
This leads into my reflection on the course and what I've accomplished. Coming into this course, I was terrified because there is not a lot I remember from high school math, so it's takes me a little longer to solve problems. After a few weeks in the course, I realized that the purpose of this course was not to focus on math itself, but how to teach it and inspire our students to love math. I think that as I was completing my assignments (problem solving session, creating a word problem, leading a learning activity, making a lesson and unit plan, etc.), I was just doing them to check them off my list. Looking back, I have accomplished more than I thought. I have been able to lead an activity, do presentations, and I even presented a math lesson plan in another class.
Here are some of the things that I am most proud of:
My Digital Math Problem:
Looking back I have accomplished so much, and I am so proud of myself, and the things that I have learned. It's nice thinking about all of the resources I have been able to put together, all the reflecting I've done and all the ideas I now have to use in a class. So yes, coming into this course I was so nervous, but leaving the course I know I can accomplish anything I set my mind to!
This course has made me think about math is such a different way and I can't wait to use what I have learned in my own classroom!
Thank you for following me on my math journey :)
